Borders Book Signing 2008

Last night I had a book signing at Borders in Century City. Planning events like these requires work, and I appreciate everyone who provided their support.

The event started with refreshments for guests. Next, I shared with the audience the story behind why I wrote the book. I then held a Q & A.

I looked around and saw so many familiar faces, including friends whom I haven't seen in years. One couple learned about the event that Borders posted and showed up to re-introduce themselves to me after 17 years had gone by.

When I reflect on my support system, it's hard not to boast.

The loyalty that my inner circle and I share is a prized and rare gift. I count not only family, but colleagues and clients among the individuals who form this network.

There are so many people I'd like to thank for the event last night. For now, I'll limit it to Pate Stevens, one of my top agents who works in the Beverly Hills Nourmand & Associates office.

He exemplifies loyalty. So many last minute matters need to be taken care of before an event like this, and I counted on his quick thinking and generous spirit to make the event a success. I enjoyed myself immensely, and I know that this was largely as a result of his behind-the-scenes effort.

You can view all the photos from my event on my Flickr page. For now, I've loaded a few for your viewing pleasure.

Save the Date! Next Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Borders in the Century City Mall

Due to technical difficulties, I'm having to change the course of this blog entry. Here's what I planned to post:

1. Photos of my speaking gig at the California Association of Realtors (CAR) Conference in Long Beach, CA.

2. A delightful invitation to next Wednesday's book signing at Borders.

Unfortunately, none of the images will upload. It's a problem that started last night. As a result, you'll just have to take my word for it: the photos and invitation are all fabulous.

My book signing will be at the Century City Mall. Borders is on the second floor across from Bloomingdales.

Join us at 10250 Santa Monica, Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90067. The event will begin at 7:00. I'll share about my beloved book, hold a Q & A, and finally, meet all of you.

If you have any questions, please phone my assistant, Wilma at 310-888-3333.

Not quite the tempting invitation that my son, Howard, created, but until I can upload photos, please accept the minimalist presentation.

First Lady of Beverly Hills Real Estate Speaks at California Association of Realtors Convention in Long Beach

It was 10:30 this morning, and I sat at the table beside the podium. The room was nearly filled to capacity, and it was time for me to start my presentation. Lawrence, my M.C. announced, "Are there any empty seats?"

Hands would go up, and wandering guests would make their way to vacant chairs.

Three minutes later, I was ready to begin. But groups of people continued making their way inside the conference room.

By this point, there were no seats left, so guests stood along the periphery of the space. The convention center staff let me know that we were violating fire code, and only seated guests could stay.

I felt terrible as I saw so many disappointed and frustrated faces file out of the room. Lawrence then said, "I'm so sorry, but Myra will speak again at 9:00 a.m. Please come tomorrow morning." By my estimation, we had to turn away over 300 people.

So begins my talk at the California Association of Realtors annual conference.

My seminar was titled "Keys to Successful Negotiation."

As I stepped behind the podium, a combination of anticipation and anxiety surged through me. All tensions eased when I looked toward the front row and saw my friends, my husband, and my son seated near me to show their support. And I was ready.

I know that many at the CAR Conference this year--dare I say most?--are consumed with fear and all the doom and gloom that they read on-line and in the paper.

It's an attitude that I love to tackle. I was there to provide my take on the real estate biz, which is one where the skies are bright--there are a few clouds, but I always see the silver lining and the rainbow at the end of the storm.

It's a message that I've presented over and over. Most significantly in my book. But also through my blog, press releases, through talks with colleagues, and presentations like these.

You've got to remain optomistic, positive, and always see opportunities even in a downward market. The deals are out there, so make them happen.

This attitude has so much to do with why I love my work. My friends and family say that my enthusiasm is infectious. Today, I was glad to spread it around the packed room where I made my presentation.

After wards, I stood at my booth in the convention center and met those who attended my seminar. I shook hands, answered questions, and signed copies of my book.

I was inspired as so many people came up to me and said, "Myra, I'm a busy mom, and I could completely relate to your experiences." They were looking to me as an example of a housewife who decided to take the plunge and do something totally new. In the process she found a career beyond her wildest dreams.

Tomorrow morning I'll present again. I look forward to any opportunity to help my fellow Realtors to climb the ladder to success.

California Association of Realtors Expo and Borders Book Signing

These next two weeks will be full of activity. On Wednesday, October 15 and Thursday, October 16, I’m speaking at the California Association of Realtors Expo. The event is described on the California Association of Realtor’s website as follows:

“CALIFORNIA REALTOR® EXPO 2008, the state's largest real estate trade show, draws thousands of California's key franchise executives, top producers, and movers and shakers every year for educational, networking, and professional development opportunities.”

The educational session that I’ll be teaching is called, “Keys to Successful Negotiating.”

A timely topic, wouldn’t you say? With the turbulent real estate market, our negotiation skills are being put to the test. Buyers aren’t sure whether the price is right, seller’s are feeling the effects of a soft market, and I’ll be there to provide real estate professionals the tools to navigate through these challenging times.

The week after, on Wednesday, October 22, I’ll be at Borders, in the Century City shopping center, where I’ll have my third book signing. The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be open to everyone. It’s been such a rewarding experience to hear people say how my book has affected their lives. Feel free to visit, and I’d love to meet you.

Borders is located in the Century City Shopping Mall. The mall’s address is 10250 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90067, and Borders is located on the second floor across from Bloomingdales.
