Myra Nourmand: Profiled in University at Buffalo Newsletter

UB, or University at Buffalo, recently profiled me in their Alumni Association website, and I was delighted to reconnect with the school that I have to thank for not only my B.A. but my marriage to Saeed as well.

For my kids, native Angelenos, the thought of Buffalo, New York is as distant as its location. They’ll never know what it’s like to grow up where the seasons really change, the winters can be brutally harsh, and the people have a way of speaking that’s all their own. I can attribute my accent to Buffalo, but it’s also mixed with some Patterson, New Jersey too.

For me, Buffalo is my roots are. It’s where I spent much of my childhood, where I attended college, and where I married Saeed.

He was an engineering student, I was studying sociology, and the school brought us together.

I live about as far as you can in the Continental US from the Queen City, but if you hear me speak, you’d quickly realize how close Buffalo remains to me.
